Vadugur Arulmigu Panchanatheeswarar Temple (historically known as Thiru Vadugoor) is an ancient 10th-century Chola granite sanctuary and the 16th holy Paadal Petra Sthalam in the historic Nadu Naadu region of Tamil Nadu. Located near Cuddalore in Cuddalore district, this sacred temple derives its divine name Vadugoor from Vadugan (Bhairavar, the fierce guardian manifestation of Lord Shiva), who performed intense penance here to guard the sacred directional realms.
Enshrined in the 7th-century Tamil Tevaram hymns composed by child-saint Thirugnanasambandar, the temple is hailed as Panchanatheeswarar because Sage Agastya invoked the spiritual waters of five holy rivers (Pancha Nadhi) into the temple tank for daily abhishekam. The temple complex features a classic Dravidian Rajagopuram, an inner sanctum housing the Swayambhu Lingam of Panchanatheeswarar, a dedicated East-facing shrine for Vaduga Bhairavar, a separate shrine for Goddess Vadivambigai, the sacred Vilvam tree (Sthala Vriksham), and the holy Pancha Nadhi Theertham. Pilgrims visit Vadugur to seek Bhairavar's protection from enemies, fear, black magic, and astrological hurdles.
