Practical Observations

Highways & Road Conditions

NH-45 (Chennai-Vikravandi) is a 6-lane bliss. NH-36 (Vikravandi-Kumbakonam) has ongoing 4-lane widening around Sethiathoppu; budget +40 mins. State Highways SH-28 (Pudukkottai) and ECR coastal highway are smooth, well-signposted, and highly scenic.

Parking & Crowd Management

All major mega temples (Thanjavur, Chidambaram, Thiruvarur, Swamimalai) have dedicated municipal paid parking lots (₹30 to ₹50). During weekend mornings, prefer reaching major temples by 06:30 AM for zero-wait parking right opposite the Gopuram gates.

Food & Accommodation

Must-try culinary stops: Kumbakonam Degree Coffee at Muralis, Kumbakonam Kadappa at Venkatramana, Thirukannapuram Special Pongal Prasadam, Thiruvaiyaru Ashok Halwa, and Banana-Leaf Vegetarian Thali at Mangalambiga Vilas.
